Fred has had surgery

Fred had his surgery Wednesday, July 16th.  He came home on Monday, July 21st.  This is a picture of him and Dr Galano the day he left, Dr Galano is as happy as we all are about his prognosis.  He is making a full recovery and has already rallied past who he was before the surgery.  I can't tell you how the outpouring of support has made us feel.  It has been inspirational to read our supporters cards, letters and emails about our boy and it reminds us of why we started doing this in 1999, Luca opened our eyes and our hearts to special needs pets and we proudly continue our mission with her memory to spur us on.  Look for more updates on Fred.

Cassie has arrived

Cassie arrived on Fathers Day and it looks like she won't be here very long.  She came form my friends Lora and Karen in Indiana where they pulled her as a crippled dog.  Her back leg kinda dangles but has some movement.  X-rays  showed a locked out patella.  The specialist looked at the x-rays and now has determined that it is a more involved surgery than once thought.  We will go the 28th of July for further x-rays to determine the best course of action for our girl.  Stay tuned.

Fred Inspires two Stratford Girls

Carolyn Kay was given a project for her St Marks 4th Grade class on current events and once she saw The Stratford Stars article on Fred our blind Chihuahua she knew what she had to do.  She called her friend Elena Wood and the two girls took to the streets and eventually ended up on the Oronoque Golf Course soliciting donations for the surgery that will enhance and extend our precious baby Fred's life.  We don't suggest this as the protocol for fund raising as the girls dodged trouble for trespassing but when the two day extravaganza was over they had netted SARAH RESCUE and specifically Fred $110.00!  When Carolyn's mom called and told us of the girls go get em approach we just had to have them come to meet Fred.  Thank you girls so much~~

Fundraising for Freds Miracle

Fred, our little blind Chihuahua with Hydrocephalus was seen by a Neurologist, Dr Galano, at Shoreline Emergency in Shelton on May 8th.  She did a consult and MRI that showed that Fred does have fluid on his brain and also a cyst.  All this pressure is causing him some discomfort and so she put him on some Prednisone to reduce the pressure and help mend him.  We discussed a shunt which would be placed in his head and run into his belly so that when the fluid starts to accumulate it will drain into his stomach and be absorbed.  The MRI was just over $2000.00 and I am not sure of the cost of the shunt but I am sure it will be costly as it is a human shunt that will be used.  I have asked before for people to consider contributing to the ones I have here that had extrodinary needs, I now ask you again.  This little boy is not 2 years old yet, he has the chance at a long life with this surgery, without it most likely the pressure in his head will cause seizures to begin and as they progress brain damage is imminent.  His surgery date has been set for July 16th so please keep him in your prayers
